Nabalus asper, Rough Rattlesnake Root

Special Notes:

Nabalus asper or Prenanthese aspera (depending on what resources you are using) is one of our favorite late-blooming wildflowers. While they seem to dislike disturbance, from our observations, they are quite hardy. This species is indicative of high-quality habitat and is of incredible value to pollinators during autumn. This plant is listed as imperiled by Nature Serve. We have plans of propagating this species and are experimenting with the stratification requirements to break the dormancy of the seeds!
